Dry Risers
A Dry Riser is a a series of pipe work and valve than run up the side of a building.
Dry Risers allow fire fighters to access water on every floor of the building.
Its called a Dry riser because there is no water in the pipe but compressed air.
England had the first dry riser installed in 1812.
You need to install dry risers on buildings that are between 18 and 60 meters above sea level.
Dry risers should be fitted in protected escape stairs and the vales or outlets should be installed in protected stairwells.
The main purpose of the dry riser is to provide water at each floor to fire fighters
Dry risers should have a visual test every 6 months and a pressure test every year.
